Community and Landscape Coordinator (CLC)

Collaborative Earth is hiring a hands-on Community and Landscape Coordinator (CLC) to support landowner outreach, drive early enrollment (pre-sign-ups), and conduct preliminary site assessments for an early-stage Payments for Ecosystem Services (PES) program focused on tributaries of the Brazos River in Waller County, Texas.

The Forested Wetlands Project will focus on planting native vegetation to support landscape restoration in the forested wetlands along waterways in the Brazos River watershed, and will be primarily based in Prairie View. This project is being developed alongside partners at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) and in collaboration with local landowners.

This role supports the Forested Wetlands Project and is primarily focused on landowner outreach and field-based participation setup. Responsibilities include helping identify interested land stewards, supporting early site visits, and gathering basic field information needed to determine project feasibility.

The CLC will play a key role in connecting with land stewards along the waterway, explaining the project, and inviting participation. You’ll help guide interested landowners through the sign-up process, track participation, and follow up to ensure they stay connected and informed.

This is a long-term project; given our use of PES financing, planting activities are not expected to begin until 2027 at the earliest. The CLC should feel comfortable concisely explaining project timelines and long-term benefits to landowners, as well as following baseline site assessment protocols.

About the Role

Key responsibilities will include:

- Contacting and communicating with land stewards along waterways to explain the project, introduce carbon and other PES programs, invite sign-ups and record interest.
- Managing and tracking sign-ups and following up with participants as needed, supporting the progression from lead to signed agreements, and negotiating and closing land participation deals.
- Conducting simple baseline ecological measurements to support project planning and possible future PES development. This may include vegetation surveys, soil and erosion observations, tree measurements, and photo documentation.
- Supporting our on-the-ground partners in developing a physical project at PVAMU. This may include assisting with planning, student volunteer recruitment and coordination, and organizing events.
- Collaborating with the broader team (including legal and carbon specialists, as well as other CLCs) to support overall project planning & coordination.

An ideal candidate will be someone who is:

- Skilled in community collaboration, outreach and relationship-building.
- Comfortable working independently and developing new processes to fit community, ecological, and program needs.
- Detail-oriented and able to document the outcomes of community engagement events and interactions.
- A strong communicator who can effectively collaborate with scientists, land stewards, and project teams and is able to represent the Forested Wetlands Project at public events.
- Comfortable working outdoors in hot and dry conditions for extended times, able to lift 50 lbs, and able to navigate uneven or loose terrain.

Preferred Qualifications:
While not required, the following will be helpful to candidates
-
Passionate about environmental work and knowledgeable about riparian ecosystems, Texas ecosystems, or reforestation.
- Experience in ecological data collection, including systematic field observation, geospatial analysis, and/or remote sensing.
- Knowledge of ecological software such as Seek by iNaturalist, and/or geospatial software such as ArcGis Suite, QGIS, or Felt are a plus.
